Never guess what i just drove past - a cafe called 'SNAX' - if music be the food of love then just play on.......
There is a defDrive collection and all sorts of music mayhem to download this month - check out the labels We Are Woodville, defDrive and PAPER for more details....
As for the music sector - i've just finished a report due to be published in Sept which maps the UKs music development organisations - basically I just got in touch with every tom dick or harry who helped workers make a living out of music and asked them what they did and how they did it...Illuminating.
The website is going and will be operating as a blog shortly - sssshhhhhh im using wordpress - prefer the layout...

Hi all,
I've been getting busy with my music stuff and basking in the revelation of a new baby daughter - check out this little beauty!

Apart from that MIO has been working with new label We Are Woodville's up coming artist Flash Atkins - a down on his luck Super Hero - he's been caught on camera in London recently sleeping rough - poor poor flash....
I hope his new single with 80's crooner Caspa Codina gets him a new pair of shiny red booties.
Another dead intertesting project we've been working on is: The UK-MSF which is a national Network of the Music Support and Development agencies, providing a forum for discussion and response arising from issues affecting music support projects, workers and organisations across the UK.

I've just been conducting a survey with participants from music support organisation throughout the UK, ranging from UK Music, PRS, UK Music, Generator right to community music foundations in Norfolk. I can't wait to write up the report and see just who does or doesn't do what.
Whilst i'm sat key tapping, foot slapping to some new music - i got to tell you to go get The Horrors new album Primary Colours - it's dated in all the right ways - and on a completely non indie tip DJ HELL's Teufelswerk is ace - smooth dude lounge lizard of cool, Bryan Ferry has done a belting track.
oh, I thought this was something I'd like to train up to in time for this years Christmas dinner at the folks.....until next time - don't no where don't know when

Happy New Year
As the 2008 drew to a close I wanted to draw attention to a few events:
1. Live Nation enters the recorded music market signing Madonna and other stars
2. Radiohead's 'free' download & deluxe physical album released to enormous news fanfare
3. i & G Phones - interoperability shoots thru the glass ceiling - have you got one yet? no, me neither
4. Bandstocks and other self raising schemes for artists - fan ownership rocks
5. UK-Music -new organisation which speaks direct to UK Gov about music industry - at last!
6. Amazon - selling download albums for 3 quid - yes it works and it uploads stright into your iTunes.
7. Festival fatigue - is it me but are they all fighting after the same acts, like Premeirship Football teams
8. Record labels morph into music companies offering music services to artists, bands, promoters and brands.
So which one of these do you think is going to have the biggest effect on us all for years to come?
Yes i know the last one (8) hasn't happened yet but that's the plan for my company - to manage the labels catalog's it represents to maximise the income streams available to it - licenses, sales and performance royalties.
Check out this BRANDS BANDS FANS Magazine (DEC08) to give you an idea of how bands can make up for the loss of recorded royalties - we are lucky - the music industry is unique in that both ends of the supply chain are infinite - PHEW
BRANDSBANDSFANS.pdf
In the meantime I'll be continuing to squeeze the most out of my labels and artists:
defdrive records - SNAX
Snax -Berlin electropop muskateer - plays keys with Jamie Lidell, supports Scissor Sisters

His single - Out of Trouble - released Mar09 with mixes from Peaches v Shapemod, Gus Gus, Crazy P and DJ Magic from Iceland.
On the We Are Woodville label is a Flash Atkins single called Sweetshop - check out the player and let me know what you think - its not been mastered yet as waiting for more remixes to come in...

PAPERecordings website
PAPERrecordings is the house label coming back to spread the house love - a Collection coming out in Spring 09 including new mixes of Viva Blue by KeyBoy a Norwegian band.

I couldn't resist the urge to up the world - the Obama effect is upon us, gone is the era of languishing in indie sock gazing angst; the hills are alive with the sound of disco infused dancing. the record industry is getting its house in order and soon the downloaded recording will fuel the fire of the creative belly. Crazy times for us all in music but the last recession brought us rave in fields; i can't wait to see what this ones brings us.
back soon, like the weather - all over the space
